The Scottish Borders Cultural Forum supports the work of the local cultural sector by creating a space for networking, sharing concerns, ideas and resources and finding solutions to common problems. It comes together informally on a monthly basis in different locations and provides a social get together, a discussion, and a lively cultural experience.
The August Gathering of the Scottish Borders Cultural Forum will take place at Allanbank Arts near Duns and will tie in with their annual Open Exhibition. There will be a chance after the gathering to view the exhibition, which showcases work by Allanbank Arts resident artist Gill Walton alongside artists Jennifer Watt, Justine Miller, Jenny Findlay, Claire Beattie, Peter Hallam and Ann Oram RSW. The open exhibition is open until 23rd July for submissions from any artist, both professional or otherwise working in painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics or sculpture, and attracts a wide range of high quality work. For more info please visit the website. There will also be the opportunity to view Gill Walton’s house and studio before the gathering at 12.30pm – please let us know when booking if you would like to take the tour.
The gathering will begin with some short presentations. Liz Hardy will give a talk about Allanbank Arts and what they offer; James Lowther, Head of Visual Arts, The Maltings will give an overview of Berwick Visual Arts and explore the potential for cross border collaborations and Frances Fergusson of the Borders Art Fair will talk about next year’s event.
There is no formal agenda for Cultural Forum gatherings, with the discussion being driven by those attending and it is a chance to meet in interesting places, exchange and share information and focus on particular topics which emerge.
If anyone has any particular topics or items they would like to bring to the discussion at the August Gathering, please email them to Kay McCluskey at the address below.
A light buffet and teas and coffees will be available at the start of the gathering. Please confirm when booking if you have any special dietary requirements.
To attend the August Gathering please RSVP by emailing Kay.McCluskey@liveborders1.org.uk. No later than 9.00am on Monday 31st July 2017.

Attendees at previous gatherings have found the delegate list useful in terms of following up on conversations with specific people or organisations enabling the exchange of information and contacts.
We will be putting together a delegate list (which will include your email address) for this Gathering so please let us know if you DO NOT wish to be included. It would be useful when booking if you could indicate which job title and business/organisation name you would like us to include.
Remember you can engage with the Scottish Borders Cultural Forum via their Facebook page.
