Page to Stage
Project Date: September 2013 – November 2014
Page to Stage ran from September 2013 to November 2014, and was developed by CABN Advocate Jules Horne in partnership with Ellie Zeegen and Janet Coulsen from Firebrand Theatre Company.
Each month, a script (be it for theatre, screen or radio) was chosen in advance, cast and then brought to life by professional actors in a script-in-hand reading, before being given constructive criticism by all those attending.
Recognising that it can be a lonely process being a writer, and contrary to popular opinion, being an actor too, Page to Stage provided an opportunity to get together once a month, to inspire and encourage each other, whilst honing creative skills and abilities.
Page to Stage sessions were led by actors and writers, for actors and writers, to encourage and develop scripts – by seeing them as they are destined to be seen – in performance. Page to Stage workshops have led to a number of playwrights publishing and performing their own works.
“First visit to a ‘Page to Stage’ reading last night. What a welcoming atmosphere. Such a positive and nurturing environment for new talent!”, Stephanie McCormack.
“Going along to Page to Stage has helped encourage me to develop my involvement with Borders Youth Theatre and my ambition to write for the stage myself”, Lewis Teckkam.
“A great group of people – testament to the Page to Stage initiative”, David Harrower.
