Project Date: 1st June 2013 – 31st October 2015

Resource built on CABN’s partnership with Heriot Watt University, School of Textiles and Design in Galashiels established through previous initiatives – ConTEXT and ReSIde.  This new, membership based model provided opportunities for individuals to benefit from ad-hoc or structured time and space away from their studio/workplace.  It allowed for reflection, ‘thinking’, research, meetings and the exploration of individual and collaborative creative practice, using new materials and techniques, developing ideas in an unpressured yet supported environment. The location also offered designers, makers and artists access to the wide range of facilities, training and expertise available within the School of Textiles and Design, at a 50% discount on commercial rates.  This was an 18 month pilot scheme with the ultimate aim of developing a lasting network and exemplar for the creative community in Scotland.

Resource offered opportunities for continuing professional and creative development to individuals within a respected academic and research environment. The premise was ideas development, innovation, entrepreneurship within an educational establishment with access to first class studio, library and workshop facilities – technical equipment, expertise, mentoring, with the added value of potential collaboration with members of staff, students and peers.

Subscription was open to professional artists, designers and makers who wished to extend their practice through engaging with the technical and research facilities within the department, student and staff community and other member practitioners.

Resource was funded by Creative Scotland (Talent Hub fund), Scottish Borders Council and Borders College, with significant in-kind support from Heriot Watt University.
