How to Spread the Word: Writers’ day on marketing, social media and e-publishing

Project Date: 7 July 2012 –

How to Spread the Word was coordinated by CABN Literature Advocate, Jules Horne.

This was an opportunity to find out how to promote your book online with award-winning writers and social media experts Nicola Morgan and Sara Sheridan. Nicola and Sara are fantastic speakers and highly established print authors who use the power of social media to reach readers, sell books and find work online. They shared their tips and strategies around social media, marketing and e-publishing, and there was also a chance for Borders writers to network, swap experiences and catch up on the fast-changing worlds of writing and publishing.

Nicola Morgan has won the Scottish Children’s Book Award and been nominated for the Carnegie Medal for her fiction, which includes her famously gruesome novel Fleshmarket. She also acts as a writing consultant, and has published the highly acclaimed Write to be Published.

Sara Sheridan writes historical and crime noir novels, and her first novel, Truth or Dare, was shortlisted for the Saltire Book Prize. She’s a regular blogger for The Guardian and The London Review of Books, and mentors emerging writers for the Scottish Book Trust.

The programme for the day can be viewed here: Programme For How To Spread The Word

The discussion between Sara Sheridan and Nicola Morgan was filmed by Robert Sproul Cran and can be viewed on You Tube.
