Green Tease | Re-imagining the Dunion, Jedburgh, Scottish Borders
Green Tease | Re-imagining the Dunion, Jedburgh, Scottish Borders
Tuesday 20 November 2018, 2pm – 4pm FULLY BOOKED
Venue: Jethart Youth Hub, 5-7 High Street, Jedburgh, TD8 6AQ
A new vision for turning a former quarry and landfill site into a large-scale, low carbon visitor attraction.
An informal gathering over tea, coffee and refreshments to find out about an ambitious project to create a visitor attraction and Scottish centre for sustainable living at the Dunion, near Jedburgh, inspired by the Eden Project, Cornwall and the Centre for Alternative Technology, Wales.
The session will begin with a presentation about the project by John Bathgate, project founder and FRSA, Health Safety & Environment Manager of Emtelle, and go on to discuss how artists and cultural practitioners might be involved with and contribute to the project at different stages including in the early planning phases.
The brownfield site on the Dunion is the remains of a carboniferous volcano and offers spectacular views over the Scottish Borders. It has the archaeological remains of a large hill fort and in more recent years has been used as a quarry and landfill site.
The ‘3 to 1’ Centre is designed to give all visitors a life changing experience, helping us move to a low carbon future where we are not using more resources than we have. The centre is to be a green tourism initiative which will bring together all aspects of sustainable living to educate, inspire and encourage people and organisations to make real changes towards a low carbon lifestyle. It aims to support the local economy by providing jobs, using local suppliers, joining with other attractions to encourage visitors to stay longer and promote the Borders a green destination.
The event is free but please book a place in advance via Eventbrite.
This Green Tease is a collaboration between Creative Carbon Scotland and Creative Arts Business Network. Green Tease is an ongoing events programme connecting creative practices and environmental sustainability across Scotland. Find out more about the Green Tease network and how to get involved.
