An Introduction to Connecting Threads

We were delighted to see the launch of the Connecting Threads project, the cultural strand of Destination Tweed, an ambitious project led by Tweed Forum and supported by The Southern Uplands Partnership to conserve, celebrate and promote the River Tweed from beyond the source to the sea. CABN has been involved in the development of this project over several years through the work of Advocate Claire Pençak (Place Making and Collaborations) and we’re excited to see the opportunities for creatives and communities developing as well as the establishment of 2 new cultural posts.

Connecting Threads aims to explore and celebrate the culture of the Tweed. Working with local communities and cultural, environmental and educational organisations, the Connecting Threads team are developing and will, funding permitting, deliver a 5-year cultural programme shaped by the river’s habitat’s and heritage.

Over the course of a 12-month development phase ending in October 2021, the Connecting Threads team are engaging with communities and organisations based on and around the river to identify, uncover and explore the cultural heritage and future of the river and the value it holds for the people closest to it. A pilot programme of activity aims to test out ideas, building a broad picture of river culture to help shape the proposed 5-year cultural programme and biennial River Festival. Inviting people to create and take part in workshops and events, Connecting Threads aims to grow a community around the project to support a culture of stewardship, collaboration and shared learning.
