Quiet Places
Quiet Places
Quiet Places is a two-day walking art retreat exploring the remote upland landscape of the Southern Uplands, led by artist Emily Cropton. This project is supported by CABN’s Small Grant Fund
DEADLINE TO APPLY: Sunday 20 July
Quiet Places is a two-day walking art retreat exploring the remote landscapes of the Southern Uplands, led by artist, creative producer, and mountain guide Emily Cropton.
This weekend retreat is designed for creative practitioners interested in deepening their relationship with fragile environments and mountainous terrain as part of their practice.
Over the weekend, we’ll walk, move, read, reflect, listen, and create together in the wild land area around Hart Fell, inspired by themes from Donna Haraway’s essay “Staying with the Trouble.”
This retreat is a pilot residency for a future walking art programme—your experience and feedback will help shape what’s next.
Date and Time
Start: Saturday, August 9, 2025 – 9:30 AM
End: Sunday, August 10, 2025 – 5:00 PM
This is a small pilot with just 8 places, so we ask all applicants to complete a short form when requesting a ticket. You can identify the type of Ticket you would like to apply for during this process.
Emily and the CABN team will review submissions after 20th July, and confirm places by Friday 25th July.
We prioritise creatives based in the South of Scotland, but others are welcome to apply if it resonates with your practice.
