Drawing Inspiration from Collections | Talk
An informal talk on contemporary design and practice, inspired by collections and archives
2-3.30pm Sunday 13th May
Hawick Museum, Wilton Lodge Park, Hawick, TD9 7JL
To accompany the touring exhibition Ley Lines, Live Borders Museums and Galleries in partnership with CABN, is hosting an event with talks on ‘Drawing Inspiration from Collections’. Ley Lines is an exhibition by Sydney based artist Kate Scardifield, who during a 2016 residency in Scotland unearthed social and historical gems from six local museum collections and archives across Scotland to create a new body of work, which is currently showing at Hawick Museum alongside objects and fragments held within Scottish Borders collections.
Ley Lines is curated by Glasgow based curatorial practice Panel, which is led by Catriona Duffy and Lucy McEachan. Panel promotes design in relation to particular histories, archives and collections through exhibitions, events and cultural projects and Catriona and Lucy will introduce this exhibition, talk about how Kate has developed work from the collections and will also talk about a number of other projects they have developed with artists.
Grace Smith, a Borders based designer and Print Technician at Heriot Watt University, School of Textiles and Design in Galashiels, will talk about her Masters research ‘Interpreting Tradition in the Digital Age’.
This is a free and informal event, with refreshments provided.
To book please e-mail CABN or call Live Borders Arts & Libraries on 01750 726400
