Panel at Duns Play Fest – Guest – Jane Houston Green.
CABN, in collaboration with Made in the Borders, is delighted to be part of this year’s Duns Play Fest with a panel event exploring creative practice in the South of Scotland.
Taking place on Saturday 2 May at 12 noon, this discussion brings together artists working across disciplines to share insights into building sustainable creative careers in the region, alongside the opportunities and challenges of working rurally.
We’re pleased to welcome Jane Houston Green as one of our guest speakers.
Jane has worked as a professional actress across the UK and internationally, including with the Maly Drama Theatre in Russia, touring the USA with The Office Party (Hull Truck), and performing in Zimbabwe on productions such as Antigone, The Secret Rapture, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Romeo & Juliet, and The Cherry Orchard. She also toured to Zambia with The Power of Prayer. Her screen work includes portraying Gertrude Caton-Thompson in Treasure Seekers: Africa’s Forgotten Kingdom for National Geographic, as well as roles in Unter-der-sonne-Afrikas and a recent NatWest Mortgages advert.
In 2012, Jane founded Treading the Borders Theatre Company, creating work such as Towards Flodden and Brief Encounters, both of which champion local writers and stories. Alongside her performance work, she is an accomplished playwright, with works including Being (Harare International Festival of the Arts), Where Has Our Adventure Gone?, and Where Has Joshua Gone? for Duns Play Fest. Her experimental films have also been selected for festivals in London (Chaiya Art Award), Edinburgh (Society of Scottish Artists), and Germany (Marianne Brandt Award).
As part of this year’s festival, Jane will also premiere a new play devised with Wendy Barrett, An Ocean of Memories, on Friday 8 May at 6pm.
This panel offers a valuable opportunity to hear from experienced practitioners like Jane, alongside fellow creatives, in a conversation focused on strengthening and sustaining the creative ecology of the South of Scotland.
